The Fairhills STEM Academy is where curious minds become tomorrow’s problem-solvers, engineers and innovators. At Fairhills High School, students have access to a dynamic STEM Academy that provides enriched learning and pathway opportunities across all year levels. The program combines core academic learning with hands-on, future-focused experiences, ensuring students are challenged, supported and inspired to innovate. Students develop not only strong foundations in Mathematics, Science and Technology, but also critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills through meaningful and engaging experiences.
Year 7 and 8
In Years 7 and 8, students are immersed in a STEM program that builds strong foundational knowledge and skills. Learning is enriched through hands-on and inquiry-based experiences.
Students engage in:
- VEX Robotics programs
- STEM-based problem-solving challenges
- Participation in external competitions
- Presentation opportunities such as the KIOSC STEM Conference
Year 9 and 10
In Years 9 and 10, students deepen their understanding through specialised and innovative STEM subjects, with a focus on applying knowledge in real-world contexts.
Students engage in:
- Robotics and advanced coding
- Cars of the Future
- Science of Flight
- Participation in prestigious competitions such as the Hydrogen Grand Prix
- Collaborative, project-based learning experiences
- Early commencement of VCE subjects
Year 11 and 12
In the senior years, students access advanced opportunities that support both academic excellence and future pathways.
These include:
- Advanced placement opportunities
- Industry partnerships and real-world learning
- University programs, including partnerships with Swinburne University
- Opportunities to attend NASA Space Camp (USA) for selected students
Opportunities and Pathways
Students in the STEM Academy have the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom and compete on a global stage.
Students can:
- Compete in VEX Robotics at state, national and international levels
- Engage with industry and university partnerships
- Apply STEM skills in authentic, high-level contexts
- Develop leadership, teamwork and innovation capabilities
A Program for Innovation and Excellence
The STEM Academy supports students to continuously develop their skills, knowledge and capabilities across all year levels. Through structured learning, collaboration and real-world application, students are empowered to think critically, innovate boldly and take ownership of their learning.
Supported by our state-of-the-art STEM Learning Centre, students are encouraged to explore, create and push beyond boundaries.
The STEM Academy is more than a program. It is a pathway that develops future-ready learners who are prepared to shape and lead in a rapidly evolving world.
STEM Academy Selection Process
Step 1: All students with a confirmed 2027 enrolment may apply
Step 2: Submit an Expression of Interest (link available from 5 June to 24 July 2026)
