Fairhills High School has worked collaboratively with other schools in Knox to design, develop and build the Knox Innovation Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC) on the Wantirna campus of Swinburne University. Since 2013 KIOSC has been a second campus for Fairhills, with students in Years 7-10 going each semester.
The KIOSC programs will further develop our students’ understanding of Science through a range of practical and technology based tasks. Years 7-10 programs will focus on living in an environmentally sustainable future, while senior students (VCE & VET) will take part in programs specific to their learning area.
The activities that will be offered at KIOSC include:
- Exploring Energy efficiency and Sustainability within a community
- Learning about the KIOSC building’s sustainable features, with the use of iPads
- Practical activities focussed on water ways, pollutants and water filtering
- Programming Robots with light and sound sensors
