HOMESTAY LEARNING EXPERIENCE
Homestay living is an important and highly valued component of life in Australia for international students as the home-stay families provided a glimpse into an authentic Australian lifestyle. Homestay hosts are familiar with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
They see international students as an important part of their family. Consequently, they not only care for our students, they maintain contact with the international student’s parents on a regular basis. Our homestay families are hand-picked from the school and local community.
A homestay is full board accommodation with a family, couple or single adult with a set weekly fee of (AU)$310, depending on facilities, services and location.
Homestay host assists the student’s cultural adjustment and to support their community and social integration, experienced and caring host families, who understand and respect cultural differences, are chosen to provide a nurturing home environment promoting physical and emotional wellbeing and the development of good study habits.
Homestay host families are also made aware of the culinary tastes of Asian students i.e.: lots of salads, rice, noodles, and vegetables etc.
All homestay hosts and members of their family over the age of 18, are required by law to undergo a statutory check to ensure the welfare and safety of our international students
Krystal DO’s experience
At first I thought I would be shy and nervous when I first moved to live with my hosts (homestay). But, they’ve helped me out a lot. They’ve treated me like I was their second child, supported me with all the energy they had and always reached out for me to see if I had any problems or to make sure that I felt welcomed while staying there. I’m so thankful for what they’ve done for me during the time I was there. We still keep in touch until now. If you’re finding a homestay that gives you the feeling of a real family, they are the best people for you to live with.
First of all, I am very grateful to my Homestay. Then I thank her for taking care of me during this time. She took care of me very well. Then I also hope that she can help more students as Homestay, and especially the International student to study here. Thank you
