Bake Sale – Senior Basketball

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Senior Basketball Teams’ bake sale fundraiser. It was a fantastic day, with all of the students involved doing an outstanding job preparing, serving and selling the delicious range of homemade treats. The food was incredible, and it was great to see so many students and staff getting behind the fundraiser.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork and enthusiasm shown by our Senior Basketball players throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who baked, donated and purchased items to support the teams. We are now looking forward to our next Sausage sizzle fundraiser in two weeks’ time and appreciate the continued support from our school community.

Fairhills High School Annual Trivia Night

Gather your family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues for a fun-filled evening at the Fairhills High School Annual Trivia Night!

This is one of our major fundraising events for the year, with all proceeds supporting our 2026 School Musical – Legally Blonde JR.

Your support helps fund costumes, sets, props, lighting, sound and staging, giving our students the opportunity to be part of a memorable production while developing confidence, creativity and teamwork.

Leadership Excursion a Great Success

Our recent Leadership Excursion was a fantastic success, providing our student leaders with the opportunity to collaborate, develop their leadership skills, and strengthen relationships.

The day began with a productive planning session for our upcoming Diversity Week. Students worked together to share ideas, plan activities, and discuss ways to celebrate and promote the rich diversity within our school community. Their enthusiasm and creativity were evident, and we are excited to bring their ideas to life.

After a busy morning of planning, students enjoyed some well-deserved fun at Hijinx Hotel and QV Melbourne. Through a range of interactive challenges and team-based activities, students further developed important leadership qualities such as communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience—all while having a great time together.

The excursion was a wonderful balance of meaningful work and team building, leaving our student leaders inspired and motivated for the remainder of the year. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of their planning and leadership during Diversity Week and beyond.

VCE Art Excursion

Our VCE Art students recently enjoyed an inspiring day exploring some of Melbourne’s leading art galleries.

The day began at NGV International, where students explored the galleries, experiencing a diverse collection of artworks spanning historical masterpieces through to contemporary works. They also had some fun interacting with the Children’s Gallery exhibit.

In the afternoon, students visited ACCA (Australian Centre for Contemporary Art) to view a thought-provoking exhibition exploring the theme of loneliness. As part of a guided tour, students unpacked the artworks and gained valuable insight into the curatorial decisions behind the exhibition, with discussions focusing on the use of lighting, space and the gallery environment to enhance meaning and audience experience.

Experiences like these provide our students with authentic opportunities to deepen their understanding of art-making, exhibition design and the many ways artists communicate ideas through visual language.

Library News

World Cup Soccer

Student interest in soccer has been at an all time high in the Library with the holding of the recent World Cup Series.

On 26 June, all Year 8 students watched the Socceroos’ crucial World Cup stage match against Paraguay. Although the game did not go Australia’s way, it was a great opportunity to come together and cheer the Socceroos on.

It was also a chance for us to showcase the Library’s soccer fiction/non-fiction books with a colourful display.

NAIDOC Week Assembly – Celebrating Culture, Community and Connection

On 14 July, our school proudly came together for our NAIDOC Week Assembly, marking a special milestone as our first whole-school NAIDOC celebration that brought together students, staff and members of our Koorie community to learn, create and celebrate together.

The assembly provided an opportunity for our community to deepen its understanding of the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students participated in engaging learning experiences that included the sharing of cultural artefacts, Dreaming stories, and the exploration of traditional symbols and their meanings, highlighting the importance of recognising and celebrating the world’s oldest continuing cultures. Following the assembly, students took part in a collaborative art workshop inspired by this year’s NAIDOC Week theme. Their artwork, together with pieces created during our Yarning Circle sessions and staff workshop, will become the inspiration for a unique artwork by First Nations artist Sam Richards.

This commissioned artwork will be permanently displayed in our school foyer, creating a lasting legacy of our community’s shared commitment to reconciliation, respect and cultural understanding. It represents the collective voices and creativity of our students, staff and Koorie community, and stands as a meaningful symbol of the partnerships we continue to build.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to making this inaugural whole-school celebration such a memorable occasion. Most importantly, students demonstrated genuine respect for the cultural significance of NAIDOC Week, embracing every opportunity to learn with curiosity, openness and appreciation. In doing so, they exemplified our core value of Respect and brought our school vision—”Empowering our community to be curious, creative and confident learners”—to life through their willingness to listen, learn and engage with new perspectives. Their conduct reflected our school values and helped create a welcoming and meaningful atmosphere for everyone involved.

We look forward to unveiling the completed artwork and sharing this lasting reflection of our community’s collaboration, respect and celebration of First Nations cultures.

Year 11 and 12 Formal

What a fantastic evening we shared at Chateau Wyuna. Our Year 11 and 12 students looked incredible and enjoyed a memorable night of delicious food, dancing and celebrating with friends.

A huge thank you to our staff for helping make the evening such a success, and to our students for representing Fairhills High School with pride, respect and maturity throughout the night. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves and creating memories that will last for years to come.

A special mention goes to Mr Exton, who embraced the occasion and certainly looked the part! Thank you for getting into the spirit of the evening and helping make the night even more enjoyable for our students.

We hope everyone had an amazing night and wish our Year 12 students all the very best as they enjoy the remainder of their final year at Fairhills High School.

After School VCE English Club

When: Tuesdays after school until 4pm

Where: Room S7

VCE English Club is back for 2026. If you want extra help with everything English this is the place to come! You can get help from experienced VCE English teachers and smash English in 2026!

Art Club

When: Every Thursday Lunchtime

Where: A07

All students are welcome. You can create artworks. Bring your lunch and enjoy a creative lunch.

Homework Club

When: Wednesdays, 2:45 – 4:00 PM

Where: Resource Learning Hub

Join us every Wednesday after school in a welcoming space where students can work on homework or class tasks with support available.
All students are encouraged to attend. Homework Club is a great opportunity to stay on top of your learning in a calm, supportive, and inviting environment.

Fairhills Choir

When: Tuesday Lunchtime

Where: Music Classroom

Come down to the music classroom Tuesday Lunchtimes and join in the fun. Chat to any of the music teachers if you have questions.

Japanese Club（日本部）

When: Every second (Week B) Thursday at lunchtime

Where: Room M03

Japanese Club is a place where you can be a curious, creative and confident learner about all things Japanese culture and language.

We are particularly looking for anyone with skills in anything Japanese, so please if you have a skill contact Winstone sensei at jessica.winstone@education.vic.gov.au. Parents very welcome to come share Japanese cultural or language skills if you have them!

However, to come to Japanese Club you don’t need anything but enthusiasm.

The first Japanese Club will run on Thursday March 5 at lunchtime in M03. After that it will run every second Thursday.

VEX Robotics Competition Teams

When: Tuesdays, 2:45 – 3:45 PM and Friday Lunchtime 1:05 – 1:40 PM

Where: STEM Portable

The VEX Robotics Competition is an engaging, hands-on STEM program where students design, build, and code their own robots to complete specific challenges. It fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation as students compete against other schools in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
