VCE/VCAL/VET

Victorian Certificate of Education(VCE)

The VCE is awarded to students who successfully complete their secondary education. It is recognised internationally, and provides pathways to employment as well as to further study at University and TAFE (Technical and Further Education).

VCE is usually completed in Years 11 and 12, but can be started in Year 10. About half of our Year 10 students undertake some VCE units. Within VCE, students can undertake vocational education and training (VET) subjects.

Fairhills High School offers a wide range of VCE studies to students across a broad range of study areas.

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)

A practical based program which combines study and work placement to equip students with key competencies and vocational work place readiness

Fairhills High offers the VCAL study program to eligible students in Years 11 and 12. The program allows schools to work together to provide students with the opportunity to complete the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) and begin their apprenticeship/traineeship. Students attend school three days per week, completing units on Numeracy, Literacy, Work Studies and Personal Development. Students attend TAFE one day per week and participate in Structured Work place learning.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools

Vocational Education and Training is industry-based learning that can be incorporated in both the VCE and VCAL streams. VET subjects can contribute to the VCE in the same way as any other VCE subject and can count towards a student’s overall scored results. The aims of VET are to increase the breadth of subject choice and cater to different styles of learning. Our students are invited to enrol in other VET programs of interest at schools in our local area.

Fairhills High School is an affiliated school with the Mullum VET cluster. Students can undertake a VET subject at TAFE as part of this arrangement.
