Student Wellbeing

Wellbeing at Fairhills

We recognise that wellbeing plays a critical role in the academic success and social development of our students. We offer a wide range of services to support our students and families. We deliver pastoral care as part of our curriculum, as well as facilitating preventative programs to address the issues young people face as they navigate adolescence.

Student Wellbeing Centre

At Fairhills, we have a dedicated Wellbeing Centre to provide support for all our students in need. We strive to support all our students to learn effectively and to develop lifelong positive behaviours and attitudes. Students can self-refer or be referred by year level coordinators, and/or parents to the wellbeing team.

Our dedicated Wellbeing Team includes:

  • Student Wellbeing Coordinator (SWC): Mr Amal Saleh-Zada

  • Chaplain: Mr Stewart MacCartney

  • Social Worker: Watch this space – coming in Term 1, 2021!

  • Headspace Psychologist: Ms Tashena Perry

  • Educational Psychologist: Ms Emily Habard

  • DET Social Worker: Glen Van West

Privacy:

We respect the privacy and confidentiality of our students and families. However, as part of our duty of care, there are times when we cannot uphold confidentiality, and we involve students as part of this process.

Referrals:

The Wellbeing Team provides counselling support to students, as well as utilising external community supports such as Headspace, Eastern Health, and other youth services. The school also has access to DET Psychologist for educational assessments.

Parents/Carers support:

The Wellbeing Team also provides support and advice to parents and carers, including referrals to Knox Youth Services, Eastern Health, and Youth Engagement and Treatment Team Initiative. We also host special programs and guest speaker to help parents to best support our students.

Financial Support:

The Wellbeing Team can help students and families apply for scholarships for financial aid, as well as subsidised access to uniform, books and materials for those in need.

Breakfast Club:

We are fortunate to have our school Chaplain, and he facilitates the Breakfast Club every day from 7:45 am to 8:30 am.
